Nine aspiring Staffordshire bands raised the roof at Stoke-on-Trent’s live music venue The Sugarmill recently as they rocked their way through an evening of pure entertainment.
The event was organised by Make Some Noise, the leading music charity for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who teamed up with similar music charities across the UK once again to bring this Power Tour gig to the City.

Band members aged between 11 and 19 from Anglesey, Bentilee, Chesterton, Glascote, Leek, Lichfield, Rocester, Rugeley and Wombourne performed live, some for the very first time. Special guest band, Arcade Parade from Shrewsbury also entertained the audience as part of the tour.
The Power Tour event was the fourth date for this national, annual 37 day tour for aspiring musicians, funded by national music charity, Youth Music. This year Make Some Noise has partnered with the Sugarmill in Hanley as part of the charity’s 10th birthday fundraising celebrations.
Tim Sharp, Chief Executive for Make Some Noise, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent said: “I would like to thank The Sugarmill for hosting the event this year and everyone who has supported the event. It was a fantastic evening and these young people really rocked the house with their performances, showing that we are fortunate to have so much up and coming musical talent in our area”.
Dan Nixon from the Sugarmill added: “We are really pleased to back a charity like Make Some Noise with their Power Tour. To be able to play a part in empowering young musicians and help provide them with professional performing experiences is very rewarding for us. We actively promote the local band scene and also try and bring some of the bigger names back to the city, so these young musicians can feel proud that they shared the stage of bands such as Coldplay, Trivium and Muse”.
Guy Cooper aged 15 from Sound Check Chesterton group who performed on the night said: “Make Some Noise has helped me to become more talented and better at playing music, I’d suggest to other young people seeking to perform don’t give up”.
The Power Tour will culminate in a further event on Wednesday 14th December at The Hive, Shrewsbury where one of the local Power Tour bands will perform in Shrewsbury.

Make Some Noise is the leading music charity for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Make Some Noise’s vision is that the lives of children and young people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent will be significantly enhanced by high quality opportunities to make music. Make Some Noise believes music inspires young people, and for many is also a catalyst for positive change. We explore innovative approaches that work towards better access to music for young people. Since 2001, we have worked with over 20,000 children and young people to make music of many styles.
Make Some Noise is one of 21 Youth Music Action Zones set up across England and Wales by Youth Music. Youth Music is the UK's largest children's music charity, set up in 1999 to promote and support music-making opportunities for children with the least access. Make Some Noise is a limited company and registered charity.
Youth Music is the leading UK charity using music to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. We support and develop exemplary music provision at every stage of a young person’s development, whether it’s the first time a mother and baby make music together, or a talented teen’s debut at the Royal Albert Hall.
Youth Music has transformed the landscape of musical opportunity in the UK. Since 1999, we’ve reached over two million children and young people through all types of music; both in and out of school. Music has the power to build confidence, broaden horizons and raise aspirations. Our music programmes allow vulnerable young people to find their way, take charge of their lives and unlock their hidden potential.
