Stoke pupils to perform at Rockz concert

To mark the achievements of the Rockz project, commissioned by Make Some Noise and managed and delivered by City Music and Performing Arts in Stoke-on-Trent, there is a celebratory concert at Brownhills High School Maths & Computing College on Thursday 18th March 2010 at 7.00 pm.

The project at Brownhills started in the summer term of 2009 and aimed to involve young people not currently able to engage in music either in or out of the school setting. The commission has been a success and the leaders have encouraged presentation and engagement in practical sessions with the young people involved. This positive participation has been greatly beneficial and the young people are now linking practical musical skills with some of the theoretical aspects of music and asking to record work on paper.

The concert will enable the young musicians to share their work with others in school and the wider community as well as providing the opportunity to gain valuable performing experience. They will share the platform with rock musicians from other local high schools in Stoke-on-Trent and it is hoped that this type of event may become a regular feature in future years throughout the city.
