A group of young aspiring musicians from Glascote, Tamworth raised the roof of Stoke-on-Trent’s live music venue The Sugarmill recently.

The event was organised by Make Some Noise, the leading music charity for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who teamed up with similar music charities across the UK to bring the Power Tour gig to the City.

 

Band members aged between 11 and 14 from Indy rock group Sound Check Glascote performed live at the event together with eight other recently formed bands from across the county.

 

The Power Tour event was the fourth date for this national, annual 51 day tour for aspiring musicians funded by national music charity Youth Music. This year Make Some Noise has partnered with the Sugarmill in Hanley as part of the charity’s 10th birthday fundraising celebrations.

 

Tim Sharp, Chief Executive for Make Some Noise, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent said: “I would like to thank the Sugarmill for hosting the event this year and everyone who has supported it. It was a fantastic evening and these young people really rocked the house with their performances, showing that we are fortunate to have so much up and coming musical talent in our area”.

 

Dan Nixon from the Sugarmill added: “We are really pleased to back a charity like Make Some Noise with their Power Tour. To be able to play a part in empowering young musicians and help provide them with professional performing experiences is very rewarding for us. We actively promote the local band scene and also try and bring some of the bigger names back to the city, so these young musicians can feel proud that they shared the stage of bands such as Coldplay, Trivium and Muse”.

 

13 year old Amber Moore from Tamworth said: “I heard about Make Some Noise through my youth group. I’ve only been learning the guitar since June or July with them. They have helped me to gain confidence. I would urge another young person wanting to improve to just keep practicing”.

 

Young band members from Sound Check Chesterton who also took part are set to perform again at a further Power Tour event on Wednesday 14th December Live at The Hive, Shrewsbury. Doors open 7.15pm. Tickets are just ÂŁ3 on the door.
