Young Musicians Shape Their Musical Future

To celebrate Youth Music Week 2008, young musicians involved in Make Some Noise projects across Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent were invited to come together for another creative consultation event led by Louise Jutton, our Youth Liaison Officer and two West Midland-based musicleaders Paul Wilcox & Paul Carroll.

Amongst the young people invited was Samantha Walker, who has recently accepted the role of the first ever Make Some Noise Ambassador (watch this space for Samantha’s interview)!

“The best thing was being able to do what you want to do freely with help.”

Youth Music Week is Youth Music's annual celebration of young people's music making and takes place from 25th October to 1st November 2008. As well as giving young talent the opportunity to get themselves heard, it's also the chance for aspiring musicians to try out what's on offer.

Each year Make Some Noise runs an event to celebrate Youth Music Week. Due to the growing success of Sound Check: Bentilee, this year, Make Some Noise teamed up with the Stoke on Trent Youth Service to provide a suitable venue for local young musicians to get together and discuss what opportunities they would like Make Some Noise to offer in the future and to take part in a live gig challenge.

Louise Jutton comments on the whole day, “the group all fed back on marketing, project development and accreditation for Make Some Noise. It was helpful to hear some of the young people express their interest in becoming more involved in Make Some Noise. It’s fair to say the main reason they all came was to play on all the instruments provided and rehearse for their live performance.”

“I’d like to become more involved with Make Some Noise and I’m interested in joining the Young Leaders Programme.”
