MaDuLa is an after school music project at Newcastle Community High School , run in collaboration with Advanced Skills Teacher Steve Dawson.
Hundreds of young people are involved in MaDuLa each year, learning new skills in percussion, singing, dance, performance and recording.
MaDuLa has a peer mentoring strand where participants who are more experienced lead sessions for the less experienced.
Each year the project sees several big-scale performances and is developing outreach work with the feeder schools. MaDuLa is also looking to inspire similar initiatives in other schools in the region.
MaDuLa has been developed and is managed by Planet Sound Community Arts in partnership with Make Some Noise . Planet Sound Community Arts is a not-for-profit arts organisation based at the Mitchell Memorial Theatre in Hanley. For more info visit www.planetsound-arts.co.uk

tmas Lights) and at the New Vic Theatre (Citizenship Day) not only thoroughly enjoying the programme of work but their confidence and self-esteem has greatly increased. They are contributing more in class and in other school events." Mr Will, Planet Sound Community Arts.
