Make Some Noise would delivered a short junk instrument project at John Wheeldon Primary School in Stafford over a few days in November 06. On hearing on this project, one of our partner organisations (Planet Sound Community Arts) invited the group to perform at their annual showcase on Tuesday 28th November at Victoria Hall, Hanley

The year six pupils spent a couple of days creating their very own instruments from raw materials i.e. junk, scrap metal, piping etc (with the help of Tim Tolkien) and then devising their very own musical material (with the help of Sid Peacock) to be played and performed, not only at Victoria Hall, but also at their schools in front of teachers, friends and family.
JunkNazium went wonders when they performed on the 28th of November at Victoria Hall during the interval for the Spectrums of Sound performance. Using instruments they made from junk/scrap materials they put on an outstanding performance to entertain the audience. As the audience watched, some of them were amazed to see children performing with instruments like the kitchen sink and dustbins. The crowd soon built up, as they could hear it from the main hall so those who had not bothered moving came to see what was going on.

On the run up to the performance the children spent a solid weekend making the instruments and composing their song, with huge help from Tim Tolkien and Sid Peacock, the 2 music leaders that Make Some Noise had employed to come and help them out over the weekend. As well as Tim and Sid helping, there was also Make Some Noise's very own Liz Muge who organized the project and got everything sorted.

Over the weekend the children tested new ways of making noises from different materials until they found the one they liked. After they had chosen all the instruments and the ways of making sounds, they started to put together what turned out to be a fantastic performance, which ended up being a mix of playing the instruments but also singing and chanting to finish off. A s the children finished the crowd went wild, and applauded them, and stuck around to see what else was to come.

So as you can see the JunkNazium project went very well and because of this they decided to do a performance for their school, which also went very well and everyone loved it.
